Abstract
We have discussed how MIMO antennas as well as diversity antennas can be analyzed in terms of classical embedded element patterns (when all the other elements are terminated with dummy loads). These determine the correlation between the signals on the different ports. Also, the radiation efficiency can be obtained as the ratio between the radiated power of the embedded clement and the maximum available power at its input port. The characterizing quantities radiation efficiency, correlation and channel capacity can be determined directly by measurements in a reverberation chamber, without having to determine the embedded element pattern. The radiation efficiency has a much larger influence on the channel capacity than the correlation.
