Abstract
Results of a study of a small mobile electric power generation requirements of the US Army for the next two decades, identifies the technical and operational challenges from the war fighting doctrine. Considering the effect of a quantum leap in information technology, it provides examples of the changing nature of the tactical electrical load. It identifies both the need and capability of interconnection for the reliability at this level. Analysis of the doctrine and technology leads to several broad requirements for tactical electric power in the military. Indicators are defined to help identify the most promising designs. Performance drivers help prioritize these indicators.
