  • Abstract
The range of practical applications for FMCW radars has increased significantly in the last decade or so. This paper renews some of the recent applications and also some of the techniques which are now being applied to improve the versatility and performance of FMCW radars. Significant system developments include the use of moving-target detection techniques, the development of the automotive radar market, and the building of prototypes of active phased arrays using this modulation. Significant technical developments include improved ways of generating the sweep signal, using direct digital synthesis, or quieter oscillators and an improved understanding of the significance of the term ´Low Probability of Intercept.´.
