Abstract
We present a programmable processor optimized for table driven solutions. Most algorithms in emerging and relatively unexplored technologies require manipulation of large amounts of data and the maintenance of databases. The processors currently available in hand-held devices are incapable of this kind of processing within the timeframe required. The work presents a solution to this in the form of a programmable processor. The processor includes a fast data manipulation unit and a standard general-purpose processor core. Data is maintained and managed internally. Accelerator mode operation is also possible, using library routines already developed. Comparisons with current PDA processors show a massive increase in efficiency. The paper also describes the results of operation using OLSR (optimized link state routing), a table driven routing protocol for MANETs.
