Abstract
This paper shows how synchronizing circuits like PLLs can be used in digital simulation models of nonlinear loads to increase precision and performance, minimizing errors associated with wrong phase shifts between voltages and currents. A complete description of different types of PLL circuits and their characteristics is also presented, so one can decide which is best for each situation. Results of nonlinear load simulation are analyzed, focusing on the IEEE 519 standard methods, to point out the advantages of the proposed new model.
