Abstract
We have studied the possibility of reducing the RCS of an antenna located in an infinite PEC plane. Both a PO and PTD model is used. It is found that it is possible to reduce the RCS by introducing a transition region enclosing the antenna where the surface impedance is tapered to zero. In practice, this can be achieved by using RAM or by changing the impedance of edge elements in the array. It was also shown that shaping is the most important factor, and if an impedance tapering is used its properties versus θ must reflect the properties of the antenna.
