Abstract
This paper focuses on the calculation of the rotor losses of a high speed permanent magnet (PM) synchronous generator. Due to the high rotor speed and high frequency of the stator winding current, the losses of the rotor are no longer negligible. The rotor losses consist of four parts: the air friction loss on the rotor surface, and the losses in the rotor enclosure, PM and rotor core respectively. Based on the analytical method and finite element analysis, the losses in the rotor for a 100 kW high speed PM generator with rated speed of 60000 rpm are investigated
