  • Abstract
Routing and grooming have often been studied independently for WDM networks. However, a closer investigation shows that they are indeed closely related, and better performance can be obtained by integrating them. In this paper, we propose an integrated scheme for routing and grooming in a WDM network. In this scheme, routing decision is made combined with the grooming policy. In addition, traffic lifetime is taken into account in routing and grooming. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve resource utilization on existing lightpaths and leave more free resource for future requests. As a result, wavelength can be used more efficiently and lower blocking probability is achieved
