Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) is computer system which satisfying special requirements that allows navigators to use officially plotting on an electronic nautical charts instead of plotting on paper charts. The navigator conducts a preliminary plan of the ship´s route for intended voyage and monitoring positions of the vessel over the chosen route usually on paper charts. ECDIS can be used as an equivalent of paper nautical charts and nautical publications for navigation.
