TopExpert: A Knowledge Based Software for EM Topology Based Interaction Modelling

This paper describes the development of a software tool for the analysis of EM topologies of electronic systems for susceptibility. The software can be used by electronic system engineers or EMC design engineers throughout the product design / development cycle. It shows the worst-case path for fields coupling to a unit in a system, predicts the likelihood of failure, and gives a visual indication of the system´s health. The software makes use of an EM knowledge base derived out of EMC engineer´s experience, expertise and domain knowledge, to predict potential EMC issues quite early in the development cycle.
