Abstract
In this paper, a modified slotted patch EBG structure has been investigated and followed by a discussion of the design and the evaluation of the structure. The result of the EBG structure in term of S21 is shown in simulation and measurement. The simulation process is being done using microwave office software 2006. The EBG structure is developed using inexpensive Fire Retardant-4 (FR4) board. The S21 result shows that the band gap of the structure is between 2.24 GHz and 2.6 GHz at -20 dB. The structure is then incorporated into a 2 by 2 antenna array operates at 2.4 GHz with a separation between lambda2 and lambda. The result shows that the radiation pattern improved with reduced back lobe with an extra gain of 1 dB compared with the antenna without the EBG structure.
