Abstract
This paper provides an overview of the current and future applications which will requires syntonization and synchronization in telecom networks. The key idea of this presentation is to depict the differences of the requirements in terms of synchronization (e.g. frequency, phase, time-of-day, corresponding accuracies…). The other main aspect of this paper is to address the architecture challenges that an operator will have to deal with in the near future. Indeed, the network is changing, new network technologies start to appear, and different cases will probably imply the use of different methods to deliver the required synchronization. The idea is here to depict the potential solutions and mechanisms that can be used depending on the different architecture cases and application requirements.
