Abstract
In this paper, a new predictive speed controller using automatic tuning Smith-predictor (SP) for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is presented. In a full digital speed control system for a PMSM, there are inevitable delays in calculating the speed and the currents and applying the inverter output voltages to the motor terminals. The SP is famous for its delay-free characteristic and suitable for regulating systems with a time delay. It is however sensitive to plant parameter variations. According to our investigation, it can be improved by introducing intentional parametric mismatch and the corresponding optimal tunings are determined parameter. The experimental results are shown to prove the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed predictive current controller using a 1 KW PMSM servo drive system.
