Abstract
The single-sided stator configurations of the linear induction motor are analyzed, and the traction force and the normal force equations are derived using two different methods. The first way we solve the for the two-dimensional field distribution in the air gap and in the secondary, the mutual reactance and secondary impedance are derived account for the longitudinal end effect factor and other electromagnetic effects, such as skin effects, the thickness of the secondary plate and transverse edge effects. The secondary method for solving the force equations is to use the two key motor design parameters: (1) the magnetic Reynolds number Rm and (2) the air-gap-wavelength ratio betag . This method is easier than the first method, but it didnpsilat consider the short-stator end effects and the skin-effect problem. In this paper these two methods are compared in the force study, and the simulation results show the influence of the end-effects and the skin effects.
