Abstract
The design of integrated control systems currently being planned for incorporation into future fighter aircraft includes additional areas of concern for the control system engineer. Specialized design techniques are required for such integrated control systems whether they provide straightforward coupled outer-loop to inner-loop control modes or are implemented as multi-input, multi-output configurations to meet a multiplicity of requirements. Three important problem areas discussed relate to (1) system control hierarchy, (2) methodology for designing multivariable optimization control algorithms, and (3) techniques for attaining adequate digital computer throughput. Conceptual applications to current system designs are used for topics of discussion.
