Abstract
The development of a detailed nonlinear first-principles simulation of a coal-fired power plant is outlined. This model is used in an investigation of the potential improvements in performance using two recently proposed multivariable control strategies: the singular value decomposition (SVD) controller and the multivariable tuning regulator. Significant performance improvements are realized using the SVD controller.
