Abstract
A two-stage pressure rate control valve is studied and the effect of changing the main spindle design from a sliding spool type to a cone-seated poppet type is considered. The transient pressure responses of the system are compared as full pump rate is demanded to pass through the relief valve, and a rewly developed CAD package is used to model the system dynamics. It is shown that the cone-seated spindle design gives a better transient performance.
