Abstract
In this paper nonlinear control strategies based on exact linearization are designed and evaluated for continuous fermentors. The dilution rate and the feed substrate concentration are considered as potential manipulated inputs in single-input single-output schemes for productivity control. The resulting controllers are compared theoretically and via simulation. It is shown that the nonlinear controllers provide superior regulatory control compared to simple PI controllers.
