  • Abstract
A new diversity combining technique is proposed for frequency hop spread spectrum communicators operating in the presence of partial-band interference. The method is based on replacing the noncoherent integration in a linear combining receiver with an outlier-resistant estimator based on order statistics. It is applicable to MFSK modulation, at the expense of sorting and linear combining in each of the M channels. We present a probability of error analysis for a special case of this system; namely, BFSK with selection of only a single order statistic. The technique is most useful when the jamming occurs independently in the Mark and Space channels. Here, we assume noncontiguous Mark and Space filters to assure independent jamming.
