Abstract
Clastic reservoir characterization typically starts with the modeling of the facies distribution and geometry. The architecture of the reservoir, governed by the facies geometry, is a major source of heterogeneity in such clastic systems. The use of geostatistiscal tools for modeling reservoir heterogeneities and assessing uncertainty in reservoir forecasting has increased significantly since the 1990s. This paper presents geostatistical tools for building numerical facies models of the 1sands, the upper second member of Shahejie formation in the western area of the pucheng oil field, which was deposited in a terminal fan system. Three major depositional microfacies are identified consisting of distributary channel, proximal overbank and distal overbank. facies modeling has been approached in a hierarchical fashion, using the Schlumberger PETREL system.
