Abstract
Here we propose a novel optical multiplexing approach by means of the dispersion matching technique. Before transmission, the optical signals in pulse format from different users spread along the time axis to different scales by using artificial dispersion components. At the receiver side, the target signal can be retrieved by using the reverse dispersion component which only recovers the original target pulse shape. After the optical to electrical conversion, the energy of the interference is concentrated on lower part of the frequency domain while the energy of the target signal covers much broader. Thus, one can use filters to distinguish the target signal and eliminate the interference. Numerical analysis is performed with respect to the interference filtering and impairment of fiber dispersion itself. Besides, the comparison with OCDMA technology is also depicted. This multiplexing approach is very promising for applications in local area computer networks and short range communication systems.
