Abstract
To improve the performance of wireless sensor networks, there has been increased interest in network protocols that rely on cross-layer design recently. In this paper, we present a cross-layer method for cluster-based wireless sensor networks to provide energy efficiency and low latency. In the proposed approach, the adaptive cluster head selection scheme and the cluster route scheme can eliminate the idle listening and collisions to improve power efficiency and reduce transmission latency. Simulation results show the improvement of the network performance by using the joint design.
