Abstract
In this paper, we study cross-layer scheduling in a multiuser wireless network. The key goal is to decrease the total completion time and increase the system throughput via a cross-layer design approach. Our main contribution consists of two cross-layer information based scheduling (CLIS) schemes: max-rate CLIS (MRCLIS) scheme and proportional fair CLIS (PFCLIS) scheme. The CLIS schemes combine channel fluctuation and user cross-layer information, including mobility and file size information. The MRCLIS and PFCLIS do not need substantial change in the existing system and coexist efficiently with the max-rate and proportional fair criterion respectively. Simulation results compare the MRCLIS and PFCLIS with maxrate and PF scheduling scheme respectively, which indicate our proposed scheduling scheme have good performance. We also examine the extreme cases, which utilize only either the file size information or the mobility information.
