  • Abstract
This paper examines how Yangxinpsilas (Hubei Province, China) economic growth has affected environmental pressure by calculating a time series of Yangxinpsilas ecological footprint (EF) from 1999 to 2006 (without 2001). The results show that the EF increased during the time period. Comparison of the EF with the bio-capacity of Yangxin shows that in 2003 and 2006 a region of ecological overshoot is reached. It is concluded that the growing economy has intensified humanpsilas pressure on the Yangxin environment by its enlarged demand for cropland and energy. Though the gross domestic product per capita (GDP) is increasing during the time period, the eco-efficiency of EF, exhibits reduced from 2004 to 2006.
