Abstract
Most existing traffic signal systems do not monitor or archive traffic system performance data in real time and thus have operational improvement limitations. A system based on intelligent data acquisition device has been successfully developed by National Institute for Advanced Transportation Technology (NIATT) for real-time performance monitoring at signalized intersections. This system is able to collect complete high-resolution detector and signal indication data and generate real-time performance measurements for intersection operations. The application to monitor intersection operations involves macroscopic estimation of average delay values.
