  • Abstract
    A design of an antenna with a large hollow shorting cylinder for application in mobile phone with an embedded digital camera is investigated. The antenna is simulated for applications in quad-band GSM/DCS/PCS/UMTS systems. The effect of the metal box including battery, RF circuit, and nearby electronic component on the performance of the antenna is studied. A vertical ground plane electrically connected to the system ground plane of the mobile phone is presented. The vertical ground plane can function as an effective shielding wall between the antenna and other associated element in mobile phone. The effect of the external dielectric cover on the on the radiation characteristics of the antenna is explained.
