Abstract
The amount of distributed generation (DG) located in distribution networks increases rapidly. This may have certain impacts on the traditional protection methods. To ensure safe and selective operation, these impacts should be taken in to account and included when planning DG unit interconnection. The distribution network operators (DNOs) are increasingly facing new challenges related to DG. At the same, needs for developing the planning systems for DG interconnection purposes have been observed. This paper briefly describes the network protection impacts of DG and the typical tools applied for network planning. The development of new planning functionalities is described. The present situation and needs of using planning systems for DG interconnection studies are described. The future work to be performed under project ADINE co-funded by European Commission will be outlined.
