Abstract
In this paper, we propose a multi-reply extension to AODV routing protocol in attempt to find the path with higher residual energy in ad hoc networks. The routing scheme of AODV, without concerning energy condition of nodes in its route discovery stage, can easily lead to depletion of nodes and partitioning of the network. To solve this problem, the proposed protocol accounts for energy conditions of nodes, which are exchanged together with control packets, in both route request and reply phases. And by allowing multiple route replies from the destination node, it is capable of finding the path with high remaining energy. Simulation results generated by NS2 show that the proposed protocol has advantages in finding paths with high residual energy and prolonging network lifetime over AODV.
