Abstract
Radar system with separated sub-arrays can improve both angular accuracy and resolution at a reduced cost and technological requirements. However, the inherent high side-lobes deteriorate the performance greatly. In this paper we investigate a GA-based method to reduce the PSLL of the separated sub-array radar (SSAR), by tuning sub-array positions and element amplitude weights, simultaneously. Hybrid chromosomes and hybrid genetic operators are used for the optimization. The convergence of the proposed method is confirmed through simulations. Thus, it is shown that the GA-based method could serve as an effective aid for designing SSAR system.
