Abstract
This paper elaborates the measures undertaken to do Electro-Magnetic Hardening of Battle Field Surveillance Radar (BFSR). Though the primary aim of this exercise was to harden the system to meet the Military Standards, considerable knowledge was gained in hardening a system which consists of different electronic circuits like RF Transmitter and Receiver, Digital Circuits, Base-band Analog Circuits and also Power Circuitry all in close proximity and housed within the same cabinet. An attempt is made, through this paper to provide a Case Study, which brings out the nuances of EMI mitigation, gives a few thumb-rules and also lists the lessons learnt in the process of hardening of BFSR which could later be used for any other system.
