Abstract
A novel time stamp extension header used to record the packet through the router´s time for IPv6 network is designed. Based on this type of packet a new link utilization measurement method is promoted. Source sends probe packets initiative, the router time is recorded in the packets hop by hop. Through the statistical processing, eliminate the packet processing delay, propagation delay, transmission delay and the router clock skew, then the queuing delay of each probing packet is obtained. Using the Link Status Smoothed Algorithm, the queuing delay transforms into the sequence of the link status, finally gets the link utilization. This approach is verified through simulations.
