Abstract
This paper will describe a Dedicated Video-Signal Processor (DVSP) for image processing (automated visual assembly and inspection) systems. The DVSP consists of the following functions. (1) Flash A/D converter (2) 1H (Horizontal one line) delay line for digital data (3) Operation of extracting contour pixels of objects (4) Interfaces and Address controller with interface for the external Index RAM and Frame RAM (5) Interaces and Decoder with interfaces for an external 8-bits MPU The DVSP having above functions can perform the operation of extracting contour pixels as fast as 200ns. It has been fabricated with 3¿m POLY Si-Gate CMOS technology and contains about 11,000 transistors. The chip with the size of 6.3Ã6.3mm2 is encapsulated in a 80pin package. It requires a + 5V single power supply and dissipates 250mW typ. Using the DVSP can reduce the set-size and the cost of vision systems to 1/10 and 1/5, respectively, compared with the conventional ones.
