  • Abstract
    A novel WDM-PON scheme based on polarization division multiplexing is proposed to support simultaneous delivery of point-to-point (P2P) data and multicast data. The polarization divided two light carriers from the same light source are used for transmission of P2P signal and multicast signal, separately. And the specific structure for combination of wavelength and polarization division multiplexing is presented to support selective multicast for each individual wavelength channel at lower cost. The multicast signal can be switched on or off by adjusting the polarization state of the light. This scheme is experimentally demonstrated and investigated with a combination of 10-Gb/s downstream P2P and 10-Gb/s multicast signal transmission.
