Abstract
Linear polarization has been the traditional transmission scheme used in the mobile radio networks for the time being. However, the upcoming MIMO technology in the WCDMA networks is bringing problems which can be firmly mitigated with the usage of circular polarization. The MIMO coexistence with legacy HSDPA users is a big that circular polarization can fix. Moreover, there is a lack of diversity gain by receive diversity terminals in high geometry scenarios due to the use of the linear polarisation. This can be also mitigated with the circular polarisation.
