Abstract
Although there are many methods to calculate the settlement of ground, it is difficult to obtain accurate results due to the complexity of geotechnical characteristics, and then the safety of ground and structure cannot be ensured. Based on the safety, influence of soil characteristics on ground safety is discussed by means of reliability theory, and methods to assure the structural reliability are presented. The research method and suggestion can be used in code compilation, geotechnical investigation and structural design or construction.
