Public sector organizations have a typical tall pyramid like organizational structure with centralized powers and multi layered channels of vertical and horizontal communication giving rise to longer processes of decision making. There is little emphasis on employee involvement, personnel development and improvement of working conditions, which adversely affects the team performance. This paper has identified four factors Empowerment, hygiene factors, motivation and training & development, affecting team performance in public sector organizations and has suggested how team performance can be improved. Quantitative techniques for data gathering and analysis have been used to test the four hypotheses. Conclusions have been drawn and recommendations have been given for improvement in performance of teams.
