Abstract
Smart mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and wearables, have successfully infiltrated our everyday lives. It´s now common to find mobile devices with various sensors, including high-resolution cameras. Sensors on mobile devices produce rich contextual data and have enabled many useful context-aware applications. Video is probably the richest form of data mobile devices produce. However, today´s devices and network infrastructure can support only rudimentary functions: uploading, downloading, and a little bit of processing. In this article, the author looks at the challenges of enabling more advanced processing capabilities, and conceives future opportunities regarding the videos smart mobile devices generate.
