Abstract
Off-grid hybrid energy system is increasingly popular for remote area power generations. This paper presents the photovoltaic-variable speed diesel generator hybrid energy system without energy storage element. This configuration avoids the high battery installation and maintenance costs as well as the associated complex control. Moreover, incorporation of the variable speed diesel generators into the hybrid energy system gives advantages over the conventionally used constant speed diesel generators. Simulation of the system using MATLAB/Simulink is presented.
