  • Abstract
    Based on the power system simulation software DIgSILENT, this paper presents the Electro-Magnetic Transient (EMT) simulation of Very Fast Transient Overvoltage (VFTO) phenomena in 500kV GIS substation of Xiangshuijian pumped storage power station. The modeling of GIS components and its connected equipments are summarized. The operation of disconnector in GIS under different typical substation configurations is simulated. It is concluded that the highest VFTO level in the GIS substation is below 500kV substation Lightning Impulse Withstand Voltage (LIWV). The influence factors of VFTO are studied in this paper, including transformer entrance capacitance, residual charge of GIS bus conductor and the cable length between GIS and transformer. The variation regularities of VFTO level with these factors are concluded.
