Abstract
This paper addresses the problem of analysis and simulation of K-Band Ranging system (KBR) measuring error due to oscillator phase noise. The KBR system and the dual one-way ranging (DOWR) system employed in KBR is described. Then, effects of oscillator phase noise on KBR ranging precision are analysed theoretically in terms of both time domain and frequency domain. After that, power law noise model of phase noise is presented. Based on the power law noise model, time domain sequences of phase noise are simulated adopting a discrete fractional integration generation method. Finally, the simulated phase noise sequences are injected into the KBR system and the ranging error due to oscillator phase noise is obtained. The final ranging error of this time-domain simulation is verified by comparing its power spectral density (PSD) with the foregoing theoretical frequency domain analysis result.
