Abstract
Our concern is the development of an optical method to sense the microlever motion in a atomic force microscope. Towards this end we are utilizing the optical tunneling effect occuring at the gap between two optical guides. Simulations and experimental results are presented. We are also evaluating the utilization of lithium niobate as light guiding material to this end.
