Abstract
This paper presents a new technique for implementing frequency reconfigurable antennas. The idea is based on integrating laser diodes within the antenna substrate. The job of the laser diodes is to shine light of appropriate wavelength to the photoconductive switches that are incorporated inside the antenna radiating patch. A prototype antenna was fabricated and tested to prove the proposed technique. A good agreement was observed between the simulated and the measured data.
