  • Abstract
    In optical burst-switched (OBS) networks, contention is mainly responsible for the data loss in buffer-less optical network. Several schemes have been proposed to avoid contention to reduce the data loss. Most of these schemes address the problem by focusing on contention avoidance without dealing with congestion. Bi-directional reservation is generally suggested to be most useful for contention avoidance. Hence, there is a need to focus on network level contention avoidance using bi-directional reservation with dynamic load balancing incorporated with congestion avoidance. In this paper, we complement the bi-directional reservation with dynamic allocation of load in case of congestion. Our simulation results show that the proposed contention avoidance technique significantly reduces the packet loss probability.
