Abstract
In order to study the application of general equivalent method in theory research and teaching practice of university physics, the author had studied several classical textbooks with the thinking method of analysis, comprehensive, classification, abstract and generalize, and classified equivalent method under two groups which are special equivalent method and general equivalent method. The definition, classification and application of it were discussed in this paper. The research indicates that general equivalent method is useful to investigate physics theory, solve actual problems and develop students´ creative thinking. The results offer a new idea for improving research and teaching of college physics.
