Abstract
Present work deals with the thermodynamic evaluation of an indirect type natural convection dryer capable of generating an adequate and continuous supply of hot air with temperature in the range of 50-65°C for quality drying of paddy grains. Experiments were performed in batches of 10 kg and 20 kg of paddy, to evaluate moisture reduction rate with a known quantity of fuel (biomass). Average relative humidity of the environment was at 65%. Thermodynamic parameters such as energy utilization factor, exergy available for the process and exergetic efficiencies were evaluated. Results were found to be promising.
