Abstract
Explosive cladding is a solid state welding process in which the joining of two metals is accomplished by the application of the pressure released by explosive detonation. This study focuses on the estimation of collision conditions in explosive cladding of Aluminium-Steel and Copper- Steel dissimilar metals. Analytical and numerical approaches were attempted to determine the temperature and pressure developed during the process. It was observed that pressure was higher and temperature was lower at the collision point. Microstructural characterization of the explosive clads reveals a characteristic undulating interface.
