  • Abstract
We examined beam optics and emittance of a KrF laser ion source with a pepper-pot method. From copper plasmas produced by 2–4×10−8-W/cm2 laser irradiation, ion beams of ∼10 mA were extracted over 20 µs. Stability of the beam optics strongly depended on the flux balance(perveance matching) in the extraction gap. We achieved stable extraction by choosing adequate voltage and source plasma flux. A simple charge-state analyzer using a micro-channel plate (MCP) showed that the ion beams contained Cu+ and Cu2+ dominantly.
