  • Abstract
A linear inductive voltage adder design for PBFA II is presented that could permit high convergence radiatively-driven implosion experiments with two ring-shaped two-stage extraction diodes. The design incorporates two linear inductive voltage adder modules with ferromagnetically-loaded cavities, one for the upper half and another for the lower half of PBFA II, and can be positioned vertically or horizontally in a head-to-head linear configuration with the diodes at the center. The design provides a total of ∼ 20-MV and 100-TW electrical power delivered to the diodes. If diode, ion, and transport efficiencies are taken into account, the design is capable of depositing 55 TW to a 6-mm diameter target, which corresponds to a specific peak power density of 50 TW/cm2.
