Abstract
The brittle and fatigue fracture caused by micro-crack and fatigue damage often happen suddenly in the pressure vessels, impellers, aircraft skins and other structural elements working in the extreme condition, even results in a catastrophic accident. A composite nondestructive testing (NDT) method is presented which integrates electromagnetically induced acoustic emission (EMAE) with electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT). The surface and sub-surface defects can be detected by this nondestructive method without adding the special exciting circuits and coils. The exciting coil of the composite nondestructive testing method is designed which suits to EMAE and EMAT in the meanwhile.
