  • Abstract
Video decoding belongs to a high energy consuming task, which poses a great challenge on energy-constraint devices. To overcome the challenge, lots of dynamic voltages scaling (DVS) algorithms have been proposed. However, an online DVS algorithm which can provides the trade-off between quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees and energy saving, has not yet exist. In this paper, we propose an basic DVS algorithm model for video decoding. Based on the model, we proposed two simple DVS algorithms for purpose of comparison. And then, we introduce an equivalent decoding complexity (EDC) based DVS algorithm which can provide the trade-off between QoS guarantees. Finally, we design extensive experiments which show that the HEDC DVS algorithm has a huge potential on energy saving and provides a good trade-off between QoS guarantees.
